I was asked to come shoot a show that I’d not heard of but has been around for a while in the Victoria area called “The Showdown” held at the VEC. This voting style competition has performers putting on their best attempt to gain your vote. Each guest writes down their favourite performer at the end of the show and the votes are tabulated. Each show has a different theme and there is a cash prize and plenty of confetti for the winner. Winners are then asked back at the end of the year for a variety show.
This show was the Burlesque Improv show! Performers were not given advance notice of the song they would perform to. These songs, and the performance order, were drawn shortly before the performance started. None of the performances were rehearsed, so these babes all had to pull their moves out of their existing experience, which thinking ahead about what kind of props or tricks they needed to prepare for that they could work into any song choice.
The performers at this show were Alma Rythm, Aurora Noire, Blue Onyx, Bus-Tee Pipes, Cherry Cheeks, Cinnamon Kicks, Florence Fatale, Marius the Faerie Bear, Misty Moss and Roxy Mi-Nue. You may recognize some of those names from previous posts! While votes were counted, the audience was treated to a performance by George Ireland.
Who was the winner? I’ll let you scroll to the bottom to figure it out.
