A number of the connections I have been making to work on leveling up my photography have been in a local Facebook group called Creators Victoria. This has been a great networking space not just for individuals but also for organizing group shoots. Practicing artists on both sides of the lens throw their talents together to create unique opportunities for portfolio work. It’s also a good chance to network with your peers.
I’ve been wanting to do more boudoir and an opportunity arose when Jerry Lum came into town from Vancouver. He works frequently with models and the Vancouver Fashion Week shooting runway. In town for work, Jerry offered up his hotel room in the Parkside Hotel downtown for other photographers and models to join him in some studio shooting which he set up in the dining space of his suite. I took the opportunity to use the rest of the suite and work with models Lily Russell, Autumn Cramb, Taylor Whitley, and still snuck in a couple of studio style headshots with Jodi Bot. Jodi liked one of them so much that she submitted them to her modelling agency and it went up in her model portfolio!
